How TV and film can influence your office design

Working in an office can be tedious for a number of reasons. To begin with, it can be difficult to concentrate. There's often a number of distractions to contend with: from the noise of other members of staff to the clutter on your desk. Simply being uncomfortable or sitting with a poor posture due to a lack of good quality furniture can also have a negative impact.

Believe it or not, the design of your office can impact your energy levels and productivity. It’s understandable that you’ll enjoy working more if you like your work space.

Research has shown that there are many office features that can boost both your mood and productivity. Plants, the colour of the office walls and the quality of the furniture can all provide their own benefits. For example, it’s thought that the colour yellow encourages creativity and friendliness. Plants oxygenate the air, but also boost productivity by around 15%.

Creating an appealing office space can be difficult as most people stick to company branding and colour schemes; but you can make your place of work so much more interesting. One starting point for any office design is to look at famous offices from TV and film for inspiration. From famous films such as Harry Potter and Fifty Shades of Grey to popular TV series including Suits and Mad Men; there are many offices which can help you create the perfect place to work.

Good quality office furniture is key

If you pay attention to the offices of famous TV characters, they never have a basic chair or desk to work from. Although the character’s office is fictional, and probably quite unlike your own, good quality furniture is something you should really invest in. Companies like Furniture At Work sell a range of office products which can suit any office design and provide comfortable support for your posture.

Keep your office tidy and organised

One of the biggest distractions in any work place is the amount of clutter that can build up in your work space. Files and documents are often the main cause and can mean you spend valuable time looking for documents instead of working. Cupboards and bookcases are often the best solution. As any Harry Potter fan will know, Professor Dumbledore utilises a majestic, floor-to-ceiling bookcase in his office. Taking inspiration from Professor Dumbledore will mean your office space is never cluttered again.

Add some colour and artwork to help improve the décor

Many offices are plagued by dull painted walls; but it’s surprising what a fresh lick of paint and some stylish artwork can do. If you’re a fan of Fifty Shades of Grey, you’ll have noticed that millionaire businessman, Christian Grey has a stylish painting by Ed Rushca on one of the walls. Valued at a massive $1.7 million, it is rather extravagant for a piece of artwork. But you can still add your own style to your work space. Whether it's a painting you’ve created yourself or a canvas of your family, there are many ways you can add a special touch.

Taking inspiration from TV and film is a great way to add a unique and stylish look to your office. Whatever the design, it’s important you create an office environment which is the perfect place to work.
